Wait for The Lord

For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken. Psalm 62:1-2 (ESV)
How should we wait on the Lord? In silence. We should listen for His voice in a quiet place, a place without a lot of background noise. For example, we have a large open space at CCM we call “The commons.” It’s a great place for fellowship, but it’s not the best place to wait on the Lord in silence. Let's review how Elijah heard from God.
…but the LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice. 1 Kings 19:11-12 (NKJV)
These verses remind us that Elijah didn’t hear the Lord in a loud, dramatic way, he heard His still, small voice. By the way, when we are waiting and listening for the Lord’s voice, we might want to stop asking Him for things. Why? If we’re not careful, we may inadvertently mingle our own thoughts with God’s voice. To hear a quiet voice, we usually need to be quiet ourselves.
Quietly waiting on The Lord goes deeper than our prayer requests. We can't view God as a cosmic ATM for prayer, so even when our prayers seem to be unanswered, being in His presence will satisfy our souls. When you pray, don’t be in a hurry for an answer, wait in quiet expectation. God will answer at just the right time. Don't wonder if God will answer, expectantly wait for the moment when He will answer (Hebrews 11:6).
My salvation and my honor depend on God, he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. Psalm 62:7-8
An occasional quick prayer is OK, but we can’t pour out our hearts if we’re hurried. Don’t rush your quiet time with God, take time to unload the depths of your heart. This verse also reminds us that God is our rock and our refuge and a safe place to find shelter for our souls. Remember, God is the best listener we know!
Stay in God's will and quietly wait for Him to answer your prayers and concerns.
