Letting Go

For His anger lasts only a moment, but His favor lasts a lifetime! Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning. Psalm 30:5 (NLT)

There was a time when I disliked catchy religious clichés like “Let go and Let God”. To me, most of them just seemed too simple. But the older I get, the more I realize how little I knew then, how little I know now, and how prideful I can be sometimes...

Timothy, my dear son, be strong through the grace that God gives you in Christ Jesus. 2 Timothy 2:1 (NLT)

Paul’s instructions to Timothy are a great reminder of how simple the Gospel really is. God's grace changes everything! It’s greater than our sin, and bigger than our problems. Transitioning from self-sufficiency to dependence on God is life changing, but it's not easy. Then how do we do it? By reaching the "end of the road" and realizing we can't solve our problems using our own power or efforts. The end of our road is the beginning of His road. God's grace means it’s never too late to get started on the right path.

Whatever circumstance or situation we find ourselves in, following Jesus is always the best solution! Believe in Jesus and you'll receive grace for your mistakes. Following Jesus is the alternative to worldly thinking and a self-reliant mentality. Have you ever tried living by your own set of rules? If we're honest, we probably all have, but we must also admit that it didn't end well. Many believers fall into the trap of trying to be like Jesus in their own strength instead of surrendering to Him.

But great is the Lord’s faithfulness! He knows us to our core, and He loves us when we haven't yet fully surrendered. We're all created in His image, so we all have an equal opportunity to respond to His grace. Some will, but some won’t... it’s sad knowing that some people we know will choose darkness over light. If your friends and family depart from the faith, instead of trying to "fix things" yourself, ask the Holy Spirit for help.

If life's circumstances are discouraging you, don't give up! Stay faithful to God and He’ll do the rest. His purposes and plans for you can't be stopped! Our divine Potter is molding us into the image of His Son by using all of life's circumstances for our good and His glory. As that old saying goes; "Let go and Let God!"
