For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. Mark 10:45
Are you a follower of Christ? If you are, are you serving the Lord with your spiritual gifts? God gives all of us spiritual gifts, but He never forces us to use them. If you aren't using your special gifts, you're missing out! An important part of being a Christ follower is using our gifts to expand God's Kingdom.
Maybe you think you don't have time to serve... There are seasons of life when serving can be difficult, such as taking care of young children or an elderly parent. But has your career or other commitments left "no room on your plate" for anything else? Christ followers are called to make time for God, and to follow the example set by Christ.
Jesus is our Lord, and we are His servants. Our master set many examples we must follow, and one of them is serving God. We can all make excuses (I have a whole list), but they pale in comparison to Christ's example. In the book of John, Jesus knew His death was imminent, so He wanted to show His disciples how to act when He was gone. After they shared a meal, one of the last things Jesus did was modeling an act of service for His disciples.
...he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him. John 13:4-5 (NLT)
Washing someone's feet was a job for servants, it was never done by teachers or leaders. If anyone witnessed it, they would have seen it as an extraordinary moment. Even the disciples thought they should be washing Jesus' feet, not the other way around. This event is an impactful lesson for us about serving others and humility. With no time to spare, and "a million things on His plate" Jesus made time to serve others.
If Jesus was willing to serve us, shouldn't we be willing to serve Him? Remember, we grow together in Christ by following His examples. God is watching, and He will bless you for following Him!
