Pray like Hannah

In her deep anguish Hannah prayed to the Lord, weeping bitterly. 1 Samuel 1:10

Hannah was praying in her heart, and her lips were moving but her voice was not heard. Eli thought she was drunk and said to her, “How long are you going to stay drunk? Put away your wine.” “Not so, my lord,” Hannah replied, “I am a woman who is deeply troubled. I have not been drinking wine or beer; I was pouring out my soul to the Lord. Do not take your servant for a wicked woman; I have been praying here out of my great anguish and grief.” 1 Samuel 13-16

As she poured out her soul to God, Hannah described herself as "a woman who is deeply troubled." She was filled with anxiety and grief because she was unable to have children. What did Hannah do? She cried out to God in prayer. What about us... Is something troubling you right now? Maybe you are praying for your prodigal son or daughter to repent, praying they will set their hearts on pleasing God. Do you have a troubling medical diagnosis and need healing? Have you come to the end of your means and desperately need financial help? There is ONE who is listening attentively! There is ONE who gives us reassurance and the help of His presence; His name is JESUS, and He does this through the person of the Holy Spirit.

You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book. My enemies will retreat when I call to you for help. This I know: God is on my side! Psalm 56:8-9 (NLT)

Prayer helps us release our troubles, anxieties, and sorrows to The Lord. As the Psalmist says, we know God is for us and always on our side. Prayer is where we praise God and ask Him to provide for our needs. In a way, Prayer is the verbal evidence of our faith. Prayer is a reminder that when things look impossible, with God, everything is possible (Matthew 19:26).

Because He bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath! Psalms‬ ‭116‬:‭2‬ ‭(NLT‬‬)

May we all be more like Hannah. When she was troubled, Hannah didn't give up, she kept praying in faith. The next time you're troubled, pour your soul out to The Lord in prayer, He is the only ONE who can help!
