Trust in the Lord with all your heart… Proverbs 3:5
Do you believe every word of scripture to be true? The Apostle Paul wrote that all scripture is inspired by God. Shortly after Jesus declared He is the Truth, Pontius Pilate asked the infamous question, “What is truth?” as Truth in the flesh stood right before him.
Our human tendency is to rely on our flesh. which is fallen and fickle. That’s why the writer of Proverbs reminds us to trust and acknowledge the Lord in all our ways. Our wisdom is foolishness to God and His wisdom is foolishness to the world. The word for trust is batach, which means to lie face down in a helpless state. When this posture is accompanied by a humble heart, it communicates to God that you trust Him to lead.
Following God’s leading often includes assignments we wouldn’t choose, yet ultimately these are the paths of righteousness. Trusting God is more than a concept we learn; it must become a lifestyle we follow. Every circumstance presents us with a choice to have a divided heart or a fixed heart. When we lean on God, we experience His faithfulness. There’s an exchange of a natural dependency on ourselves to a supernatural dependency on God. We’re told to have no confidence in the flesh because nothing good dwells within us. Trust is not reasoning but believing.
For many, Proverbs 3:5 is a familiar verse. It lays out three clear instructions:
What: Trust – an utmost confidence and security that God does what He says.
Who: The Lord – describes the sovereignty and authority of God.
How: With all your heart – we either trust God with all or not at all.
God’s thoughts and ways are not like ours because He is above the heavens, while we are restricted to earth. Why would we want to trust in our de-ficiency when we have all of God’s suf-fiency to lean into? If you want to lean more on the Lord’s understanding and less on your own, at the feet of Jesus is a place of sweet surrender. It’s a place of T.R.U.S.T. - Total Reliance Upon Spiritual Truths
If you are waiting on God to answer or act, be encouraged—every Word of God is true! When you open your Bible, Jesus is right in your midst. Ask Him to reveal His promises and help you receive every one of them. When He says He will, He does. He cannot lie, He will not fail, and He never forsakes. Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord!
