We're Family!

After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. Revelation 7:9 (NLT)

John’s vision of heaven described seeing all of God’s people. How much better would it be if everyone realized:

  1. We are ALL valuable to God.
  2. We are ALL made in God's image.
  3. We are ALL created to be in fellowship with God.
  4. We are ALL created to be in fellowship with each other!

It’s not a new idea, or a new form of social justice, it's a command from Jesus to "Love your neighbor as yourself."

Recently, I was so encouraged to be part of CCM's Asian Fellowship Home Group Thanksgiving celebration. There were many nations represented, and many different people from all over the world who are now living here in Brevard County. As believers, we should attend church services regularly, but we should also be involved in a small group or a class. My wife and I can honestly say that small groups changed our lives. Thank You Jesus for the blessing of small group fellowship!

Last weekend, Pastor Dave's sermon reminded me who we are, what we're called to share, no matter where we’re from. Over forty years ago, God brought my wife and I together from two vastly different cultures. We didn’t know it back then, but God had a plan to work in us and through us for His glory. Years later, (fast forwarding our lives to "now") we are part of what God is doing by His grace, allowing us to watch Him change lives one heart at a time.

It’s good to get together during the Holiday season, but some of us may need to keep a safe distance from toxic relationships in our past. Staying safe is vital, but don't be so self-reliant that you withdraw from everyone and everything. Fellowship is important, and maybe that difficult person we've been avoiding needs to hear a kind word from us.

Holiday seasons can get extremely busy, so make sure you take time to rest. Jesus said it like this; “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:28-30 (NLT)

Remember, true rest only comes from knowing Jesus and resting in Him. Spend quality time with your family this season, but make sure to also spend time with Christ!
