Open my eyes to see the wonderful truths in your instructions. Psalm 119:18 (NLT)
Have you ever been reading God’s Word, and a verse seemed to jump out at you, inviting you to stop right there? When that happens, pause and meditate on those words to hear what the Lord is saying that moment. Today, God had me pause on this verse from Psalms; “Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.” Psalm 47:10 (NLT)
Being "still" means quieting our minds so we can rest in Him. Still from the onslaught of concerns that are flooding our minds. Still from fear and doubt of the future. But we are to "Be still" with our ears open and hearts tuned to God's voice.
The next words tell us how. "And know" ... When we know God, we are assured of His promises and confident in His instructions. Why? Because of the next few words, "I Am God!’ There is no other God (Isaiah 45:5) and He is the creator of our universe. He is in control of everything in it, so we don't need to worry or fear. Our God is loving and kind, faithful and just. He shows us His love by being patient with us and by giving us grace and mercy.
Every Word in the bible was given so we might know the depth of God's love. His Word provides instruction for those who believe and obey, and it will judge those who don’t. God's Word reminds us He is with us in the present, and it tells us what to expect in the future. If we'll obey His Word, we'll be welcomed into His perfect presence with a new glorified body. A future with the Lord means no more mourning, crying, or pain (Revelation 21:4). “Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him” Proverbs 30:5
Ask God to open your eyes so you can see the wonders in His Word. Learn what He wants to teach you. You may even find out He wants you to share the truth you just learned with others. Enjoy those wondrous moments as He opens your eyes, ears, and heart to His word. Be still, and listen for Him to speak!
