We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. 2 Corinthians 5:20
Usually, an ambassador is someone who represents their country while living abroad. Living in a foreign country may seem exciting, but no matter how enjoyable it is, most people say it's never the same as being at home. As Dorothy so famously said in The Wizard of Oz (1939), “there's no place like home.”
Ambassadors are expected to represent the interests of their nation, not their own. At times an ambassador might prefer to do things their own way, but it's not allowed, it's not what ambassadors do. After all, ambassadors are called to represent their country, not themselves. When someone is chosen to be an ambassador, it means the ruler of that country trusts them.
But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ… Philippians 3:20
Christians are appointed to be ambassadors too, but not for a country, for Christ. Our citizenship is heavenly, and it goes beyond the loyalty we have for our nation. We are appointed to that role by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who is the King of Heaven. That role requires us to always be on duty. But remember, the citizens of earth are always watching Christ's ambassadors to see how we behave... We are always on duty, not just on Sundays.
Being Christ's ambassador doesn't mean we can't enjoy ourselves; it means remembering that not all activities of this world are appropriate in Christ's Kingdom. After all, we are called to represent King Jesus 24/7. For example, do you have a "Jesus fish" emblem on your car? If you do, then you cut someone off in traffic, what kind of message are you sending? If we're always being watched by the world, what is our behavior telling them about Christ?
You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is beneficial. 1 Corinthians 10:23 (NLT)
Christ is calling you to be His ambassador, are you ready to serve Him? But when we behave the same as the world, we aren't being very good ambassadors... Always keep in mind the Heavenly Kingdom you represent. If we call ourselves Christ followers, we can never let our bad behavior become a stumbling block for someone else.
Christ follower, ask the Holy Spirit to help you be a great representative. With His help and guidance, we can do this!
