Come Unto Me

Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28


Once, there was a young art student who greatly admired the Danish sculptor Bartel Thorvaldsen. He was delighted when he had the chance to visit Copenhagen and view the sculptor’s famous statue of Christ known as Come Unto Me. As he stood before the famous statue, great disappointment registered on his face. A bystander noticed him and said, “Sir, you must go closer, kneel before Him, then look up into His face.” Hesitantly, the student did as he was told. On his knees, he was overjoyed as he looked up and saw the beauty in Christ's face! But it wasn't able to be seen by anyone who remained standing.


God has always been in love with His creation, but our world continues to turn away Him. God desires to have a personal relationship with all of us, so He sent His son to reconcile our sin problem. It grieved Jesus' heart to see His people turn away from God. While looking over the city of Jerusalem, Jesus said, “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her. How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! Matthew 23:37 (CSB)


Jesus longs for mankind to receive Him. He brings us comfort when we are hurting. He helps us when life’s burdens weary us. When we seek Him and sit in His presence, we find rest for our soul. Christ is our protector, our shelter from storms, and He shields us from fiery trials. That student couldn't see the beauty of Christ's face in that statue until he changed his position. When we humble ourselves our perspective changes. When we humbly ask Christ to save us, we experience the beauty of His love. His arms are wide open, and He is welcoming you into His loving embrace!


Because of the Lord’s great love, we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23 (NLT)


Seek Jesus' face each morning and let Him envelop you with His priceless love!
