Meet David Schoolfield: A Glimpse Into His Role as an Elder

Our elders play a crucial role in guiding and supporting our church. Each of them has a unique journey of how God led them to serve in this capacity. Today, we’re introducing David Schoolfield. His story is one of God’s perfect timing, answering prayers in ways he never expected. Read on to learn how he stepped into this calling, what he does outside of church, and how he sees God working through this role.

Q1: When did you become an elder?
A1: I became an elder in February 2024.

Q2: How did you become an elder?
A2: I received a call completely out of the blue one evening from Pastor Dave asking me to consider it. Funny thing is that my wife and I had been specifically praying for the Lord’s direction on how He would have us serve in a greater way. Well, He certainly showed us!

Q3: What do you do for a living outside of being an elder?
A3: I’m a supply chain manager in a local aerospace/defense company.

Q4: What’s your favorite part of being an elder?
A4: My favorite part is being able to be used by the Lord to help oversee His church and being in the unique position of being able to oversee the school (I’m a former teacher at the school!) as well.

Q5: What’s your least favorite part of being an elder?
A5: N/A

Q6: Do you have a story of encouragement since becoming an elder?
A6: God used my elder interview process to be able to share with my leadership at work what was going on. That leader is now attending CCM with the family. I have had so many opportunities to pray together at work in the last year.

Q7: In your opinion, what is the purpose of an elder?
A7: Elders provide spiritual oversight, guidance, and care not only to congregants but even more importantly to the pastors, ensuring that the church operates according to biblical principles. We have them because we follow the biblical principles to have them. :)

David’s journey is a testament to how God leads us when we seek His direction. His experience shows that when we faithfully ask God how He wants to use us, He often responds in ways we never imagined. Through serving as an elder, David has been able to witness God at work in both the church and his workplace, deepening his faith and expanding his opportunities to minister to others.
