Protection From Life's Missiles

The name of the LORD is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe. Proverbs 18:10 (NKJV)

Since October 7, 2023, many of us have focused our eyes on Israel. We watched and prayed as thousands of missiles were launched toward their tiny country. Few of us can imagine what life would be like under those conditions. A friend of mine lives in Israel, and she told me when the warning sirens go off, everyone has an assigned bomb shelter to run to. Israel also has a missile protection system called the "Iron Dome" which shoots most of the missiles down before they ever arrive. These two things allow most Israelis to live their day-to-day lives in an almost normal way.

But through most of Israel's history, there were no bomb shelters or iron domes. However, their nation was always in danger and they experienced many wars. When the people were attacked in biblical times, they found safety and security in strong towers. These towers were part of the fortified city walls and were known to be very strong. Their main purpose was to provide safety and protection for the people.

For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12 (NLT)

Most of us will never experience an assault of missiles from an enemy nation. But all of us will eventually endure another type of attack, spiritual warfare. When our enemy attacks, we need a strong, safe tower to run to. God is our strong tower, and He will protect us from the darts and missiles that Satan hurls toward us. If we fight in our own power, we will be spiritually destroyed. But praise God, we are not alone! The Lord is always with us, even when those missiles of life rain down...

How do we obtain our strong tower's protection? We call upon His name, the name of the LORD. In the power of His name, we'll be protected by His attributes (grace, mercy, love, power, wisdom, etc.). Like Job, the enemy's attacks can't reach us unless the Lord allows it. How do we learn about God's attributes so we can be protected by His strong tower? Knowledge of God is contained in His Word… our Bible. Are you in God’s Word daily? If you are, you have instant access to a strong tower in your times of trouble.

Christ follower, prepare for life’s spiritual missiles by staying in God's Word. He's your personal strong tower!
