Honoring God

“Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” Exodus 3:5

As Moses approached the burning bush, the Lord stopped him from coming any closer because he was entering God's presence. As we approach God in prayer, shouldn’t we come to him in reverence and honor? After all, we are coming before our Creator and Savior, and He alone is worthy of our praise. But honoring God isn’t something we only do at church or in our prayer time. For Christ followers, honoring God should be our lifestyle! As we talk to God in our quiet time, He will give us instructions on how to best live for Him 24/7.

“And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to love Him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.” Deuteronomy 10:12

Here are some ways we can honor God:

  1. Honor God with your words.

“May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord...” Psalm 19:14

  1. Honor God in your day-to-day activities.

“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31

  1. Honor God in how you take care of your body, where His Holy Spirit resides.

“For you were bought with a price. So, glorify God in your body”. 1 Corinthians 6:20

  1. Honor God with your tithe (your money).

“Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the first fruits of all your produce.” Proverbs 3:9

  1. Honor God by showing love to others.

“By this, everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:35

Now, let’s be real, we aren’t perfect people, so we all make mistakes from time to time. But as soon as we recognize our sin, we must repent, ask God for forgiveness, and try to avoid that sin in the future. Praise God for those "second chances" because He is rich in mercy and always willing to welcome us back into His loving arms. "If you keep yourself pure, you will be a special utensil for honorable use. Your life will be clean, and you will be ready for the Master to use you for every good work." 2 Timothy 2:21

Is there an area in your life you can work on to honor God better? As the Chris Tomlin song goes, “He is worthy of it all.”
