Generation to Generation

”So each generation should set its hope anew on God, not forgetting his glorious miracles and obeying his commands.“ Psalms 78:7 (NLT)

We live in an increasingly unsettled world, and it can feel a little scary. We may think things were much better "back in the day", but when we examine history, we find out things were sometimes better, but at times things were much worse! No matter how unsettling our world becomes, there is always hope when we trust in the Lord and rely upon Him completely. Generation after generation has experienced wonder and grief, victory and defeat, love and hatred. But there is an anchor of hope that has stood the test of time, and His name is JESUS!

”Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.Isaiah 41:10 (NLT)

It's easy to get discouraged if our focus is on a culture that continues to drift further and further away from God. But since we have the Holy Spirit living in us, there is HOPE for the future! God is our constant, our true north, our one sure thing, the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End (Revelation 22:13). As we experience His faithfulness, let's be sure we tell the stories of His faithfulness to the next generation.

”Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.“ Psalms 27:14 (NLT)

When we look at our lives and the world around us through the lens of scripture, we should see both of them as a glass half full rather than half empty. That viewpoint will inspire hope and faith in the next generation, and in ourselves! Our children and grandchildren need to be encouraged to put their hope in God and to honor Him throughout their lives. Psalm 145:4 says, ”Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts; let them proclaim your power.“ As Christ followers, we have the privilege and responsibility of instilling the faith, hope, and courage we have in the next generation through stories of God's faithfulness and through our prayers for them.

Let's encourage one another as we wait patiently for the Lord to return. Let's also remain engaged in what God is doing in this generation, knowing we are here for such a time as this!
